How To Know If Freedom Is Making You A Slave

The closest most of us come to observing true freedom is when we’re in the presence of well-loved children. They are carefree and full of wonder. They are not bogged down in anxiety or caged by fear and worry. Think about the way a small child views the world and think…

…do you spend more time joyful and full of amazement and wonder or—are those experiences just reserved for weekends, vacations, and special date nights?

If we are in Christ, we are supposed to live FREE, but for most of us, our “norm” is the BONDAGE of anxiety, worry, dread, fear, weary, overwhelmed, and—the list goes on.

We’re wasting our glorious freedom if we’re living this way!!!

We are NOT SUPPOSED to live this way! When I say “not supposed to,” I mean two things: 1. We weren’t created to live this way; and 2. We are commanded NOT to live this way. That may sound harsh—it’s not meant to be—but the truth (with as much love as you can feel through these typed words) WILL set you free! 🙂

The Bible warns us that even though Christ has made us free, we can very quickly bring ourselves back into bondage!

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬

WHAT are the CHAINS that bind us after Christ has made us free???

“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Galatians 5:13-14

When we use our liberty to delve into sin by following the flesh instead of living in the Spirit—we entangle ourselves in bondage. In this prison of sin, we lose our childlike wonder and sense of joy. BUT—when we learn to live in the will of God and be moved by His Spirit we find that our life is fully satisfying. The Bible says:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Galatians‬ ‭5:22-25‬

The Bible says when our life produces love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness…etc., that “against such there is no law.” To live in sin, is to live in bondage—after your freedom has been purchased. But, to live wholly surrendered to God is to live completely free.

When your life produces the fruits of the Spirit, you live in the most extraordinary freedom!
