“Let this MIND be in YOU which was ALSO in CHRIST JESUS, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:5-8
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING of your MIND, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2
What do you see as the powerful theme in these two verses about how to develop the “mind of Christ?” Jesus 100% humbled Himself to the will of His Father in order to pay the immeasurable price for our gift of eternal life. He calls us to ALSO present ourselves as “living sacrifices” to do the perfect will of God.
When we develop the attitudes of Christ, we also gain the mind of Christ.
The mind of Christ is more powerful than the greatest genius on earth. He creates geniuses. We, as born again believers, have access to His remarkable mind. According to the verses above, we are commanded to have the mind of Christ. But we cannot know the mind of Christ unless we belong to Him—heart, soul and mind.
“For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But WE have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16
Are you taking advantage of the amazing mind of Christ that you have been given?
I confess that I’m not using God’s mind to the degree I COULD be—if at all. I just got stressed out about making a reservation for my son’s wedding. Good grief! Why don’t I ask God for His wisdom? Do I somehow think He is incapable or so uncaring that He would not help? Clearly not. And THIS is coming from someone who regularly experiences His presence when I write devotionals and speak to folks about salvation! We all have work to do!
My friend, it’s time to tap into the mind of Christ! But beware, the enemy does not want us to experience this. So, be prepared for war. Spiritual warfare is a real thing. When we are actively engaged in making an eternal difference for others, we wake up and really see it.
After we are born again, developing the mind of Christ is a daily process. It happens when we are immersed in God’s Word, in prayer, in Christian community, in sharing the Gospel, AND in actively developing the attitudes of Jesus!
The Bible gives us the bottom line:
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:1-2
